About

Hello, my name is Leslie Karl and I welcome you to my website!

Growing up in the interior of beautiful British Columbia, outside the small town of Lac Lac Hache, I always carried with me a deep love of photography. This love was instilled in me as a child by both of my parents, whom made a hobby out of it on our family outings. When they upgraded their equipment to SLR's, in the early 1990's, I was given my father's old Vivitar PS:20 Point 'n Shoot camera.

Oh how I LOVED my new toy! Now I was like the adults on vacations, taking pictures of the beaches and many museums we visited in and around Vancouver and Vancouver Island. Even at home I pushed my photography "skills" with the family cats. None of these highly accommodating individuals were immune to my antics, posing them in various scenes and plying them with treats to get my achieved "look". There is, of course, office desk kitty and camping kitty, among others.

Nowadays, I live in the prairies of Alberta, wield a Canon EOS 5D Mark III, and my current pets are still photographed, albeit in a more... natural manner. Inside, however, I am still a small child full of wonder and excitement for the beauty of the world around me.
I have traveled to a few exciting locales, with still many more on my list to visit.

I have a most wonderful partner in my loving husband Paul. My most loyal and devoted fan. He carries my gear up mountains and through cities, ever so patiently waiting for me to take my shots so we can move on the the next spot. Which is sometimes only two feet away because I see something else to capture my attention, and lens. He handcrafts the most beautiful and unique frames build out of 50-something year old corral planks to accompany my photography.

He has been toying with the idea of acquiring a camera of his own to pass the time whilst he waits. He may be colour blind, but he is very good with tones, contrast, and composition. I think he would be most excellent at black and white photography!

This would be a very handy skill for him. We are planning on hitting the road for a few years in a converted school bus with our Great Pyrenees, Sasha. We dream of traveling throughout North America and beyond, finding all the wild and rural places that are deserving of a photograph... or two.
